After over a year of online exhibits and experiences, museums are beginning to open their doors around the city of Seattle.
If you decide to plan a visit, you’ll find a few new changes in place: most museums and galleries that are open require the advance purchase of timed tickets, there are more restricted hours for visiting, and appropriate COVID-19 protocols are in place. Additional safety guidelines have also been established to keep you and your loved ones safe as you enjoy outstanding exhibitions and collections.
Below, we have gathered a handful of Seattle museums and galleries that are safely welcoming back visitors to enjoy art in person once again.
Seattle Art Museum
The Seattle Art Museum is rolling out its “Come back to SAM!” program, with the Seattle Art Museum open and the Asian Art Museum reopening to members on May 7th and to the public on May 28th. Both will be open at a limited capacity during the weekends. During your visit, make sure to check out their outdoor spaces and take a stroll around Olympic Sculpture Park.
Bellevue Art Museum
BAM is back open, following recent updates to Washington’s Safe Start plan. The museum is currently operating for limited hours to a select number of visitors each week through a timed entry program. Their new, upcoming exhibitions include “Fly Your Own Thing” by Alden Mason, a prolific painter who showcases vibrant form, color, and style.
Museum of Glass
The Museum of Glass is back open to the public for weekend visits. Currently, the museum has a variety of exhibitions on display including “Transparency: An LGBTQ+ Glass Art Exhibition” and “René Lalique: Art Deco Gems From the Steven and Roslyn Shulman Collection.” Volunteers and staff have made changes to their operations, including increased cleaning, limiting hands-on projects in the Education Studio, and providing suggested foot-paths through the galleries.
Henry Art Gallery
The Henry Art Gallery is welcoming back visitors with six new exhibitions and free admission through June 2021. Currently on display, “Gary Simmons: The Engine Room” explores social, racial, and cultural politics through an installation of various mediums. Make sure you plan your visit online before you go!
Linda Hodges Gallery
The Linda Hodges Gallery has resumed regular business hours and is welcoming back visitors with safety protocols in place. In May, the gallery will be featuring an exhibit by Patti Bowman, a Seattle-based artist who creates incredible landscape and abstract paintings.
