Safety and Security for Portland’s Art Community

The recent fires have devastated our community.

It’s been a hard year.  Coronavirus took over the first half of 2020, and then the wildfires hit our state.  Roughly one million acres have burned.  It’s been an unsettling pace for Oregonians, including those at Art Work Fine Art Services.

We’re fortunate that our day-to-day jobs allow us to work within the small, beautiful piece of the art world.  With public spaces closed down, people moving to homes in new locations, and – even more recently – those in our hometown needing to abandon their houses for safer areas, we want to help when and where we can.

While your artwork may be safer at our facilities, we know that many of you may not be. If you are in the fire-affected areas of Oregon and are looking for more information on safe places to stay, fire trackers, and other forms of assistance, we’ve gathered some links below.

We’ve been working diligently to lessen the stress and burden for those looking to keep priceless pieces of art safe and secure for themselves and for the community.

We’ve recently received calls and emails from fire victims looking for transportation, moving, and storage assistance for their art during this unprecedented time.  With so much to worry about, art lovers can rest assured that their works are protected by Art Work FAS.

Safety and Security

All of our facilities are in secure, undisclosed areas. While we don’t share exactly where those locations are (another safety measure we take), we can share that they are in the northern part of Portland away from the current fires. We implement enhanced technology to monitor our facilities for not only security, but for heat, motion, and humidity. Our storage warehouses also feature multiple access points, adding additional levels of protection from environmental elements such as smoke.

Smoke Protection

If you have artwork and are in a location with smoke or unhealthy air, you may want to consider utilizing storage precautions to ensure the pieces aren’t distressed or damaged. Smoke can stain or discolor an item, while heat is a greater concern due to its ability to cause structural damage to pieces across almost every medium. It can be a lengthy, painstaking process to restore the piece once the damage occurs, but we have reliable conservators we are able to recommend if you do find yourself with a damaged piece.

Customization

With a fleet of various sized vehicles, hand-crafted and customized crates, and locations throughout the Pacific Northwest, we’re equipped to uninstall, crate, transport, store, and install your artwork no matter the medium and size. Our team is dedicated to treating each piece of art as if it’s our own, especially during the current times when we are moving quickly to ensure all of our customers are able to store their pieces safely.

As a Portland-based company, we’ve been so proud of our community and the growth of the city over the years. Together we’ll work to rebuild and restore the community, our homes, and the beauty of this amazing city we all love.
